“Closing Auction (CAS) : Fair Price Discovery👉👉👉or a New Window for Market Manipulation?”
• 36d ago
📢 What is CAS?
CAS means Closing Auction Session.
Buy and sell orders are collected between 3:15 PM and 3:30 PM to decide the official closing price.
🎯 Why was it introduced?
SEBI wanted a fairer and more reliable closing price based on actual market demand.
It was also intended to reduce last-minute price manipulation.
⏮️ What was the previous method?
The closing price was generally calculated using the weighted average of trades during the final 30 minutes.
⚠️ What problem is appearing now?
Low participation in the auction may allow a few large orders to cause sudden movements.
Nifty showed unusually large changes near closing during the first few CAS sessions.
🔍 What is SEBI checking?
SEBI is examining trades conducted on August 3 and 4.
It wants to determine whether the movements were genuine or whether someone tried to influence the closing price.
Manipulation has not yet been officially proven.
